KFC Console
KFC Gaming
2020

KFC Gaming approached us with a concept of creating a video for their up and coming gaming console. They wanted to ensure that it could pass off as the same quality of video as something that XBox or Playstation would get done to launch their consoles. The idea behind the video sounded super fun, and it was something we were really excited to have the opportunity to work on.

Modelling the Console

When approached with the brief, I was tasked with bringing the console to life. I started with getting the basic shape of the console which was inspired by the KFC bucket, and cutting the holes for the disk drive and chicken chamber. We then settled on a sliding out drawer for the chamber after realizing that the hinged oven door didn't work with the round shape of the console.

One of the features we tried out was a window viewing into the chicken chamber, but ultimately we decided against it as we thought we were losing the aesthetic of a gaming console. We also played with button placement on the console, originally thinking of having the power button on the top of the console like what most PC cases have, but we went with having the power button on the front.

The Reach

The launch of the KFC Console was a huge success, with the post on twitter reaching 4.4 million views, and hundreds of thousands of interactions, including replies from companies like XBox and GFuel. It was also eventually turned into a physical product with the help of Coolermaster.
